100 children banned from school for wearing wrong shoes

Around 100 pupils were sent home from a single school after parents were only told of uniform change the night before term

about starting off on the wrong foot... Around 100 pupils at a school were sent home on the first day of term for wearing the wrong sort of shoes.
Angry parents claimed they were first notified about the new rules in a text message the previous night.
They said that even if they had the money to pay for new footwear, they were not given enough notice. The school said it is demanding that pupils wear plain black shoes that cannot be classed as trainers.
Michelle Clark, who bought her son Ellian £75 black, lace-ups for school, was furious when she got a text from teachers after term started on Tuesday saying he had been turned away because of his footwear.
Michelle, 38, of Wolverhampton, said: “Ellian is 13 but was sent home from school without a key, while me and my husband were at work.”
Some parents said kids fell foul of the new rules at The Coseley School, West Mids, due to confusion about what footwear was insisting on.
Headteacher Kirsty Westhead-Jones said parents were told about the rules in a letter in May and another in July. She added:  “We have improved our uniform by asking parents not to send their children in trainers.”
